Common questions

"No transcript is available for this video"

The video has no captions in your browser session, or YouTube's "Show transcript" button isn't on the page. TextLift only reads captions YouTube already offers; it never creates text. TextLift also expects the English YouTube interface.

The transcript says it can't confirm completeness

That is expected. YouTube's transcript panel gives no end-of-transcript marker, so TextLift reports how many entries it read and never claims the list is complete. Silent stretches and caption gaps are normal.

The clipboard didn't work

TextLift shows the error and highlights Download TXT as the alternative.

Chat export says there is no chat replay

Many archived streams have no chat replay because the owner turned it off, and TextLift can't create one. If the stream is still live, chat export is available after the stream ends and YouTube makes the replay available. Live chat is not captured.

My chat export is labeled PARTIAL

The export stopped before the end of the replay: you pressed Cancel, you left the video, YouTube returned an error, or a safety limit was reached. The file's first line says why. Nothing restarts automatically; start a new export if you want a full one. Closing the popup does not stop an export, but cancelling it, reloading or closing the tab, or opening another video does.

The chat export finished but I didn't get a file

TextLift hands the finished file to your browser, which may ask where to save it (Vivaldi shows a "Save?" prompt). If you missed it, open the TextLift popup on that video and press Save TXT again.

Some chat messages are missing

Messages that were removed, held for review, or left out of the replay by YouTube can't be recovered, and "complete" only means YouTube's end-of-replay marker was reached. TextLift uses the unfiltered "Live chat replay" view rather than the filtered "Top chat replay".

It stopped working after a YouTube update

YouTube can change its page and its internal interfaces at any time, and chat export depends on one. Tell us what you saw (see Contact) and which video.
